MANILA, Philippines — Filipino karter William John Riley Tiu Go clinched a podium finish in the FIA Karting Academy Trophy Round 1 recently in Genk, Belgium.

Go, 14, posted a time of 54.423 seconds in the final to place second behind Arthur Dorison of France, who clocked 54.357. Guillaume Bouzar of Luxemburg joined Dorison and the Cebuano ace in the honor roll with his 54.430 clocking.

With his stellar performance on the tracks, Go earned the distinction of being the first Filipino to take a podium placing in the prestigious karting event, where F1 drivers Charles Leclerc, George Russell and Esteban Ocon are former Academicians.

“Receiving the opportunity to represent the Philippines in the FIA Karting Academy was a dream but finishing on the podium as P2 (second placer) for the season’s first race is an even greater one,” Go wrote on his Facebook page.
