Gilas prospect Padilla named Player of the Week in Philly Big 5
MANILA, Philippines — Fil-Am Kayla Padilla is showing no rust in her junior year of hoops with University of Pennsylvania, winning Player of the Week honors in Philadelphia's Big 5.
A former Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Padilla took her second Big 5 Women's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Quakers to an 85-42 rout of the Hartford Hawks on Sunday (Monday, Manila time).
Padilla logged a game-high 22 points on an efficient 8-of-11 shooting, making four triples in the process.
She also had five rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win.
The impressive performance after missing a year of college hoops was enough to give Padilla the accolade among five athletic programs in Philly, which include La Salle University, Saint Joseph's University, Temple University and Villanova University.
One of the best Fil-Am players in the US NCAA, Padilla is currently a target of recruitment for the Gilas women's program.
Gilas women head coach Pat Aquino has met with Padilla and her family on different occassions to have her wear the national team colors.
