Carlos reigns as slam king
MANILA, Philippines — High-flying Filipino David Carlos snatched the slam dunk title in the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Abu Dhabi Masters, pulling off a stunning win against favorite Vadim “Miller” Poddubchenko of Ukraine yesterday.
The 5-foot-8 Carlos banked on early leads from a successful elevated windmill and scorpion jams before soaring over three people in his last attempt to complete the upset.
“I just wanted to put on a show and to prove to myself that I can still compete with the world’s best,” said Carlos, who took home the $3,000 grand prize.
His thrilling win made up for the early exit of Manila Chooks TM in the group phase of the Abu Dhabi tilt won by Riga of Latvia.
Carlos came off a two-year hiatus in the international dunk scene but maintained his fiery form to clinch the third FIBA 3x3 World Tour dunk title for the Philippines.
