Rebisco, Choco Mucho head to Thailand for Asian volleyball tourney
MANILA, Philippines – Rebisco and Choco Mucho are set to leave the country Tuesday to represent the Philippines in the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship set October 1-7 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
The country sent two teams to the weeklong tournament, which stakes a berth to the 2021 FIVB Women’s Club Championship scheduled December 15-19 in Ankara, Turkey, with Rebisco to be coached by Brazilian Jorge Souza de Brito and Choco Mucho mentored by Odjie Mamon.
Rebisco, spearheaded by Dindin Manabat, Eya Laure and Jem Galanza, tangles with hometown bet Nakhon Ratchasima at 1:30 p.m. while Choco Mucho, led by Kalei Mau, MJ Philips, Ria Meneses, Deanna Wong and Dawn Macandili, will see action against Altay of Kazakhstan at 7 p.m. both on Friday.
Choco Mucho’s other games are against Zhetyssu of Kazakhstan Saturday while Rebisco battles Supreme Chonburi of Thailand Saturday Iran Saipa Tehran of Iran Sunday.
Meanwhile, Gel Cayuna has replaced Kat Tolentino at Choco Mucho due to undisclosed reasons.
The tournament is being participated by seven teams – including two each from the Philippines – Kazakhstan and the host country after several regional powerhouse countries backed out due to the pandemic.
