Philippines to host Asian women's volleyball tiff in August

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and the provincial government of Pampanga have joined hands in hosting the 21st Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship set August 29 to September 5.

PNVF president Ramon Suzara, Pampanga Gov. Dennis Pineda and BCDA vice-president Arrey Perez recently laid the groundwork of the organization of the event that would be held at the main competition venue, San Fernando Convention Center, and secondary hubs, the Subic Gym and the Angeles University Foundation Sports and Cultural Center.

“Gov. Pineda is excited and supportive to host the championship for the first time,” said Suzara.

The hosting rights were given to the country after Jiangmen, China withdrew.

It will be the third time the country is hosting the continent's top-tier women’s event, which will serve as a qualifier for next year’s FIVB World Championship to be co-hosted by the Netherlands and Poland, with the first two in 1997 and 2017.

Brazilian Jorge Edson Souza de Brito will take over the head-coaching job from Odjie Mamon as soon as the former arrives next month.
