MANILA, Philippines — Another Filipino could join swimmer Ernie Gawilan to the Tokyo Paralympics set Aug. 24 to Sept. 5.

Wheelchair racer Jerrold Pete Mangliwan clocked a minute and 2.17 seconds in the men’s 400m T52 class in the Para Athletics 2021 Grand Prix in Nottwil, Switzerland to make the Paralympics standard of 1:03.27.

The 2018 Jakarta Asian Para Games 800m bronze medalist, however, would still have to wait for the formal announcement from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) next month to make it official.

If Mangliwan eventually makes it, he would join Gawilan, who made the minimum qualifying time in the 400m freestyle S6 last year to earn his slot to the event to be staged a few weeks after the Tokyo Olympics in July.
