Ancajas feted with Navy’s Gawad sa Kaunlaran
MANILA, Philippines — In recognition of his recent victory against a Mexican challenger in a bout in the US, reservist and boxing champion Jerwin Ancajas has received the “Gawad sa Kaunlaran” Award from the Philippine Navy.
Rear Admiral Dorvin Jose Legaspi, commander of the Naval Reserve Command, in behalf of Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo, handed the award to Senior Chief Petty Officer Ancajas in salute to his successful defense of his IBF Junior Bantamweight title against Mexican challenger Jonathan Rodriguez.
“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa Panginoon sa binigay na pagkakataon na makapagsilbi sa ating bayan at sa Philippine Navy. Sobrang masaya po ako na mabigyan ng karangalan sa Philippine Navy,” said Ancajas. “Hangad ko pang makapagbigay ng karangalan at dadalhin ko ang pangalan ng Philippine Navy at Marines sa buong mundo.”

The courage and bravery that you have displayed represent the finest values of our military and our country.” Legaspi, for his part, said.
