Molina knocking at WNBA door
MANILA, Philippines — The road to her ultimate WNBA dream has officially started for Filipina pride Chanelle Molina after the Indiana Fever opened their training camp for the 2021 Season at the Salesforce Court in Indianapolis.
“Opportunity awaits,” posted the Fever over the weekend with photos of Molina in action.
Molina, born to Filipino parents in Hawaii, is among the 20 players shooting for 12 regular season spots in the camp that includes West Virginia ace Kysre Gondrezick, the Fever’s fourth overall pick in the WNBA Rookie Draft earlier this month.
A product of Washington State, Molina went undrafted in the 2020 WNBA Draft but later on caught the attention of Fever mentor Marianne Stanley after an impressive stint in the Sweden pro league.
The Filipina ace averaged 18.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists for the Norrkoping Dolphins that went 14-7.
The 2021 WNBA Season opens on May 14 with Indiana eyeing redemption after a dismal 11th place finish in the historic 2020 season held inside the Disney bubble.
