MANILA, Philippines — Defending champion San Juan bullied its way to the national finals with a lopsided 131-54 win over a five-man Makati squad in the North Division finale of the MPBL-Chooks-to-Go Lakan Season at the Subic Bay Gym yesterday.

The Knights will face the winner of the South Division finals between Davao Occidental and Basilan, an exciting showdown that was called off yesterday due to a positive COVID-19 case on the Basilan side.

San Juan rode on a massive 38-11 start to score a historic 77-point win and eliminate the depleted Super Crunch, who brought in only five players to the Subic bubble due to internal problems.

Ex-pro John Wilson paced the Knights with 22 points in 18 minutes of play while Mike Ayonayon flashed all-around brilliance with a 10-10-11 triple-double and zero error.

Edwin Asoro put up 21 points for the Super Crunch, who played without key players Jeckster Apinan, Joseph Sedurifa and Rudy Lingganay.

Asoro and his four teammates, Carlo Lloren, Kako Morales, Mark Lester Sta. Maria and David Carlos, all played without relief in the forgettable defeat.

San Juan will have to wait a little longer for the national championship against either the Tigers or the Steel as the new schedule of their postponed rubber is yet to be determined.

The league said a player from Basilan yielded a positive COVID-19 test result before bubble entry, requiring a seven-day quarantine for the entire Steel squad.
