MANILA, Philippines — The legend of the late Kobe Bryant was further immortalized at the “House of Kobe” in Valenzuela City yesterday in commemoration of his first death anniversary.

Also marking the first year of the Lakers-inspired court that was inaugurated just hours before Bryant’s passing on Jan. 25, 2020, the city held a string of activities under strict health protocols, including the groundbreaking of “Gigi’s Cradle,” a multi-purpose youth center in honor of Bryant’s daughter, Gianna.

The 13-year-old was with the basketball icon during the fatal and horrific helicopter crash in California, an incident that shocked the entire world.

The official marker of the “House of Kobe,” an art gallery and the 17th championship banner of the storied Los Angeles Lakers franchise from the 2020 NBA Season dedicated to Bryant were also unveiled during the solemn ceremony, which started at 8:24 a.m. as a tribute to the NBA legend’s iconic jersey numbers (8 and 24).

Sports patron and Valenzuela City Rep. Eric Martinez graced the event, calling on the fans to continue sporting Bryant’s famed “Mamba Mentality” – on and off the court.

“Exactly a year ago, we are back here. It’s all about Mamba Mentality. The legacy lives on. Kobe lives on. Mamba mentality is being the better version of ourselves every day, not just in sports but in life,” said Martinez, who also serves as deputy speaker in the House of Representatives.

“House of Kobe,” which is among six NBA-inspired courts in the city, is available for visit and viewing for the next two weeks.
