Zamboanga stays hot in President’s Cup
MANILA, Philippines — Joshua Munzon came through with a clutch performance as Family’s Brand Sardines-Zamboanga City routed Sarangani, 21-13, to clinch a third finals appearance in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 President’s Cup at the Inspire Academy in Calamba, Laguna last night.
Munzon, who also came through big in a previous 21-16 win over Zamboanga Peninsula, hit the shots that mattered, including two free throws off a Marvin Hayes foul that sent them into the finals of the fourth leg.
Zamboanga City will play the winner of the other semis showdown pitting third-leg champion Uling Roasters-Butuan City and Palayan City.
“This was our best one and we’d like to carry the momentum to the finals,” said Munzon.
Zamboanga, which topped the pre-season and the first two legs last week, made up for a forgettable effort in the third leg Friday when it lost to the Pasig-Sta. Lucia Realtors, 18-21, in the quarters.
Palayan made it through the semis after routing the Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards, 21-12.
