E-Gilas sweeps Indonesia in Day 1 of FIBA online tourney
MANILA, Philippines — E-Gilas Pilipinas showcased its caliber in NBA 2K after a two-game sweep of Indonesia, 56-29, 60-30, in Day One of the FIBA ESports Open 2020 on Friday.
Game One was a quick wire-to-wire victory as the Filipino cagers did not relinquish control over throughout four quarters while showing off their sweet handles on the online court.
The team ended the game with a blowout victory, 56-29.
But it was a different situation in Game Two where both teams started slow, trading baskets in the first two cantos.
Indonesia even held the lead in the second period with less than 2 minutes left in the half, 15-14.
The Filipinos, however, finally regained their spark from the first game and went on a 11-0 run, finishing the first half with a 25-15 advantage.
From then on, E-Gilas played a masterclass of transition play, steals, dunks and 3-pointers.
The Filipino gamers waxed hot from beyond the arc, particularly in the third quarter where they blew the game wide open.
Aljon "Shintarou" Cruzin, deemed a maestro by the FIBA Commentators, was the highest scorer for E-Gilas in both games.
Cruzin posted 22 and 21 points in Games One and 2, respectively.
E-Gilas faces Indonesia again Saturday for Games Three and Four at 6:45 p.m. and 7:25 p.m.
