MANILA, Philippines — Unbeaten welterweight champion Terence Crawford claimed that talks are on regarding his anticipated clash with Filipino counterpart Manny Pacquiao.

“We’ve been in contact with (promoter) Bob (Arum) and Manny’s men: they want the fight, we want the fight,” the WBO champion said.

“Basically, we’re trying to figure out the money situation,” the 32-year-old added during an interview with boxing show DAZN’s AK & Barak.

Arum, of Top Rank, promotes Crawford, and is eager to make things happen with the 41-year-old Pacquiao, the WBA welterweight king.

How Arum and Pacquiao, who will turn 42 in December, can seal the deal after a bitter parting of ways in 2018 is a different story.

But the legendary promoter spoke to iFL TV this week, saying a Pacquiao-Crawford fight is possible for this year or next.

“We hope to get (Terence) Crawford and (Manny) Pacquiao in action this year through our friends at MTK,” said the 88-year-old Arum.

He’s looking at Bahrain, the third-smallest nation in Asia after Maldives and Singapore, to stage what should be the biggest fight in the COVID-19 period.

“We’re in serious talks with Bahrain, doing major fights there,” said Arum.

Pacquiao looked impressive in a split decision win over previously unbeaten Keith Thurman in July last year, and proved that at his age, he still belongs in the elite circle of champions.

But he’s been preoccupied with his senatorial duties, and how to help his poor countrymen deal with the deadly pandemic.

“I’m not thinking of boxing right now,” he told The STAR.
