Alido, Quiban rally to stay in hunt

Dante Navarro - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Ira Alido and Justin Quiban charged back with identical 67s to join Tony Lascuña in the final cut of the 2020 Asian Tour Final Qualifying Stage at the Lake View Resort course in Hua Hin, Thailand yesterday.

On the brink of missing the top 70 plus ties final cut of the grueling 90-hole elims, Alido and Quiban found the range and kept their momentum to the finish to pull off a pair of four-under cards that earned them a share of 46th at 280 after 72 holes, just a stroke better of the cut-off score.

Lascuña also remained in contention for one of the 35 playing rights to this year’s Asian Tour despite slowing down with a 70 as the four-time Philippine Golf Tour Order of Merit winner assembled a 279 in a tie with six others at 39th.

Zimbabwean Benjamin Follet-Smith stayed in control with a 270 after a 70, keeping a two-stroke lead over the Swede pair of Bjorn Hellgren and Malcolm Kokocinski, who fired a 64 and 66, respectively.
