Laure sisters raring to lead UST drive

John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The anticipated opener of the 82nd UAAP volleyball tournament may have been postponed due to the novel coronavirus threat but Santo Tomas star Eya Laure still could not hide her excitement to hit the court at last with beloved sister EJ.

After taking the league by storm last season en route to winning the Rookie of the Year and Best Open Spiker citations, Eya looks forward to get going with a familiar partner as EJ returns from a two-year hiatus.

And the Laure sisters hope to help the Tigresses improve on their second-place finish to the Ateneo Lady Eagles last season.

“Now that I will be playing with my sister, I’m extra motivated,” said Eya, who is poised to be a more lethal player now after her Philippine women’s volleyball stint in the SEA Games last year.

“This season is for her. I will play on the court with her and for her. I missed her so much so I will be dedicating this season for her and of course for the UST community,” Eya also said.

EJ, also an ex-ROY winner back in Season 77, was not with the squad last season when Eya made her jump from the juniors’ division in style.

It will be the first team-up for the Laure sisters since their high school days, and it draws high expectations for the Tigresses.
