ABL holds games behind closed doors

John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The ASEAN Basketball League has decided to hold two of its scheduled games behind closed doors to enforce “preventive safety measures” in the middle of the 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak.

Emphasizing its priority for the safety of fans as well as the players, the ABL already held the match between Macau Black Bears and the Westports Kuala Lumpur Dragons privately in Macau the other night. The match was won by Macau, 97-87.

Currently in the middle of its 2019-2020 season, the league will likewise play the game between Singapore Slingers and Hong Kong Eastern at the Southorn Stadium in HK tomorrow without fans.

“The league and its teams primary priority is the utmost safety of everyone – both participants and fans,” said the ABL in a statement.

The ABL added that only authorized and accredited persons will be allowed to enter the venue but they are still to undergo tests including temperature check.

Wearing a mask even by staff and officials is a must inside the venue which will be disinfected before opening.
