Alab plays host to Mono Vampire

John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Alab Pilipinas tries to inch closer to the top when it hosts pacesetter Mono Vampire today in the ASEAN Basketball League at the Caloocan Sports Center.

Lurking at No. 2 with a 6-3 card, the Philippine bet seeks a victory that would put them within striking distance from Mono, who’s barely ahead at 8-3. The game is set at 7:30 p.m.

The San Miguel-backed franchise has all the confidence to do it coming off a massive 77-76 road win against Hong Kong Eastern the other day, which catapulted them back to the winning track after a blowout loss to Singapore last week.

Spearheading Alab’s bid is Jeremiah Gray, who has cemented his status as the squad’s best local cager after a superb showing in Alab’s last game, including a game-saving block.

Similar to his game-winning swat on NBA veteran OJ Mayo earlier this month against Fubon, the Fil-Am guard came away with another huge block on HK’s Jon Siu to prove that he’s more than just a sniper in leading Alab to victory after a near collapse.
