Philippine bidding to host Asian Skateboarding
MANILA, Philippines — After a successful 30th SEA Games hosting, the Philippines is set to be home to another prestigious sporting conclave with the possible hosting of the 2020 Asian Skateboarding Championships.
Skateboarding and Roller Sports Association of the Philippines president Monty Mendigoria announced their plan yesterday with the Philippine Sports Commission headed by chairman William “Butch” Ramirez and the Philippine Olympic Committee led by president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino already vowing their support to make it happen in April.
“We’ll be aiming to host the Asian Championships. We will bid for it since we have already a new and legitimate skatepark here in Tagaytay,” said Mendigoria during the victory party of Go for Gold, the sport’s’major backer.
“Congressman and POC president Bambol already told us to bid. It’s still four months in the making so I think we can do it, “ added Mendigoria.
Tolentino, the lawmaker from Tagaytay, worked for the construction of the country’s first world-class skatepark in Tagaytay not only for the SEA Games but also future international tournaments, including the forthcoming Asian Skateboarding Championships.
