Cash incentives await Filipino medalists
MANILA, Philippines — Members of Team Philippines responsible for the record haul in the 30th SEA Games are set to get their due recognition and big payoff amounting to over P100 million on Dec. 18 in a ceremony President Duterte himself is leading in Malacañang.
In a statement, Philippine Sports Commission chairman Butch Ramirez said the achievers stand to receive not only the incentives provided for by law but also additional bonuses the Chief Executive is expected to hand out.
Under Republic Act 10699, a gold, silver and bronze achievement in the SEA Games entitles the winner to P300,000, P150,000 and P60,000, respectively. On top of this, Ramirez said the medalists get extra P250,000 for gold, P150,000 for silver and P100,000 for bronze as promised by the government.
Team Philippines has been on a rampage since the opening last Nov. 30, racking up 144 golds, 113 silvers and 114 bronzes as of 5p.m. Tuesday, with more fighting for honors later in the night.
