Duterte opens doors for free

MANILA, Philippines — They say the best things in life are free. Count the tickets in all but three of the 56 events of 30th Southeast Asian Games, too.

With the exception of basketball, volleyball and football, President Duterte yesterday ordered all tickets in the Games free to the public with hopes of fully maximizing the homecourt advantage.

Philippine SEAG Organizing Committee chairman Alan Peter Cayetano made the announcement that was a direct response to Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilippinas president Monico Puentevella’s plea the day before.

The Chief Executive also ordered the PHISGOC to give away 10,000 tickets in the closing ceremony set Dec. 11 at the 20,000-seater New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.

PHISGOC chief executive officer Ramon Suzara said they could not give free tickets in basketball, volleyball and football because they have been sold out.

“This is also good for other sports that is not so popular to the Filipinos,” said Suzara.

While it will be complimentary, fans must still go to the process in securing tickets for security reasons.
