MANILA,Philippines — The PBA is outside looking in at the reported scuffle that marred the San Miguel Beer team practice last Sunday, and is not about to launch a formal probe or slap possible sanctions on those who were involved just yet.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said he was told that San Miguel management will take the appropriate action internally following the fight that reportedly ensued among import Dez Wells, and locals Arwind Santos, Kelly Nabong and Ronald Tubid.

“Kausap ko si Governor Alfrancis Chua. Sabi niya yung San Miguel may gagawin sila. Hihintayin ko iyun (According to Governor Alfrancis Chua, San Miguel will do something so I’ll just wait for it),” Marcial told The STAR yesterday.

“Tignan natin. Kung sapat na yung gagawin nila, kung satisfied naman tayo, hindi na tayo magpaparusa (We’ll see what they’ll come up with. If we’re satisfied with their decision, then there’s no need for further sanction), he added.

Marcial said for now, the PBA isn’t summoning the personalities involved but maintained that he will definitely call them up after San Miguel is done with its inquiry.

San Miguel officials remained tight-lipped over the incident.

Yesterday, a day after the controversial practice, the Beermen held their practice behind closed doors that even members of the media were not allowed in.

The Beermen (6-4) are in the thick of preparation for their crucial game against TNT KaTropa (7-3) tomorrow in Antipolo, where a playoffs bonus is at stake.

A victory will net the Beermen a Top 4 seeding and the hefty win-once advantage in the quarterfinals while a defeat will leave them needing to beat their higher-ranked opponent twice to advance to the semis.

San Miguel is seeking the grand slam this year after ruling the Philippine Cup and Commissioner’s Cup.
