Philippine belle sbamboozle PSL aces

John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA,Philippines — The Philippine women’s volleyball squad stamped its class on PSL Shine, taking an easy 25-14, 25-18, 25-16 victory to open its PSL Super Cup campaign in flying colors last night at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Veteran playmaker Rhea Dimaculangan did a great job plotting the attack for the Nationals as she dished out 13 sets and three aces in their rousing start in this three-day mini-tournament organized by the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc., and Superliga to  help the Nationals in their buildup for the coming SEA Games.

Lefty spiker Mylene Paat led their scattered assault with eight points on six hits while Ces Molina and Majoy Baron chipped in seven apiece. Eya Laure (6) and Jovelyn Gonzaga (6) together with Maddie Madayag (5) and skipper Aby Maraño (5) also threw in help for the national team that needed only 65 minutes to dispatch PSL Shine.

“We felt how it’s like to play again here in the Philippines. It’s good that we came away with the win but of course, we want to even surpass this performance and improve more on our next game,” said coach Shaq delos Santos whose wards were fresh from their 12 day Japanese camp.

With Dimaculangan providing opportunities for her gunners, the Filipina spikers bamboozled the PSL Shine in attacks, 42-27, while net defenders led by twin towers Baron and Madayag held the fort in defense with a 6-1 upperhand in blocks over their foes.
