Milo rallying nation to cheer for home bets

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Organizers of the Southeast Asian Games forged a partnership with Milo Philippines, hoping to rally Team Philippines to SEAG glory under the battlecry “Laban Pilipinas.”

Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) chairman and House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, Philippine Sports Commissioner Ramon Fernandez, representing PSC chairman and Team Philippines chef de mission Butch Ramirez, and Philippine Olympic Committee president Rep. Bambol Tolentino joined Nestle Philippines-Milo executives led by VP Veronica Cruz and AVP Lester Castillo in announcing their collaboration.

SEAG-bound athletes Alyssa Valdez of volleyball and Pauline Lopez of taekwondo and three-time SEAG basketball gold medalist Kiefer Ravena – all graduates of the Milo Sports Programs and ambassadors – were also on hand to stress how the home crowd’s support can energize the national bets in the battle.

Team Philippines is going for broke in the Nov. 30-Dec. 11  meet,  seeking a repeat of the success in the previous SEAG on home soil in 2005.

“Heart and dedication will be front and center from our Team Pilipinas delegation,” Ramirez said in a message read by Fernandez. “Values such as discipline, perseverance, and spotsmanship speak volumes to an athlete’s character and I believe these attributions are as vital to winning gold medals.”

Cruz said it’s a great honor for the company, a long-time supporter of Philippine sports, to come in as gold partner in the 30th SEAG.
