Skippers go for historic D-L sweep
MANILA, Philippines – Marinerong Pilipino aims to complete a historic tournament sweep as it goes for the jugular against BRT Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare in Game Two of their PBA D-League Foundation Cup best-of-three finals today at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
Tip-off is at 1 p.m. with the Skippers going for a follow-up to their rousing 69-59 opener win to mop up the series and carve a special place in D-League history as only the third team to finish with an untouched tournament record.
NLEX, prior to its PBA entry, completed a perfect slate all the way to the championship twice in the 2012 and 2014 Foundation Cups.
Coach Yong Garcia and his troops are bracing for war, expecting a tough fight from the Saints in their bid to force a rubber.
“We played like a roller-coaster in the first game. We were up big in the first half then suddenly slid down in the second half. We have to correct that in Game Two,” said Garcia.
