Not just luck: Suerte wants more for UE after late-game heroics
MANILA, Philippines — His last name may mean "luck," but Rey Suerte hopes to bring more to the UE Red Warriors than his late-game heroics against DLSU last Saturday.
Shooting with confidence, the former CESAFI MVP drained two clutch daggers that propelled UE in an 89-88 stunner against the Green Archers.
"Kailangan na talaga namin manalo kaya nasa isip ko kanina, positive lang at bawat bitaw ko masho-shoot talaga," Suerte said after the game.
The Red Warriors had lost in their first three outings and badly needed a win.
But Suerte doesn't want this victory to be a one-time thing.
Given his one-and-done year with the Red Warriors, he hopes to do things for the team that will last longer than his stay.
"Just keep on pushing. Gusto kong matulungan pa yung mga bata sa team namin para in the future madala nila yung team na ito sa other seasons," Suerte said on his goal for the year.
Suerte and the Red Warriors will hope to take another stunner when they face last year's runner-ups UP on September 21.
