Philippines eyes 4 esports SEAG gold medals
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has high goals in the esports events in the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games to be held here in Manila in December.
With a total of six esports medal events debuting later this year, Esports National Association of the Philippines (ESNAP) Secretary General Ren Vitug expects Filipino players to cop more than half of the top honors.
"We are targeting at least four out of six golds. We think we have very talented players, we fully trust them and we have three months, more or less, between now until December [for preparation]," Vitug told Philstar.com Thursday.
The six esports events, which include Hearthstone, Dota 2, Starcraft II, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor and Tekken 7, will all be played at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
According to Vitug, competing at home will definitely be a motivating factor for the Filipino gamers.
"Basically, the fans of esports can expect that we are gonna make a good fight especially [since] we're on home turf," Vitug said.
ESNAP, along with the National Esports Federation of the Philippines and the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Esports Union, are finalizing the national roster for the SEA Games with the SIBOL National Training Pool Combine.
