‘Bakbakan’ early bird series has drawn 2,200 entries
MANILA, Philippines — After a series of qualifying rounds in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the first ever FIGBA Bakbakan Early Bird 9-Stag Derby has drawn a total of 2,200 entries.
Organized by the International Federation of Gamefowl Breeders Associations (FIGBA), the “early bird” series will have one more elims round and 13 semifinal rounds.
Then the grand finals unfold simultaneously in venues nationwide.
FIGBA president Ricoy Palmares Jr. said the “early bird” series is a firestarter to the annual “National Bakbakan 12-Stag Derby” in October.
Now on its 20th year, the National ‘Bakbakan’ which drew more than 8,000 entries last year remains as the biggest and most trusted stag derby in the country.
“Our policy is to accept only FIGBA-banded stags for uniformity and fair play since the start in 1999, “ said Palmares.
The Bakbakan Early Bird 9-Stag Derby is sponsored by Thunderbird SD4+ and Excellence Poultry and Livestock Specialists.
