MANILA, Philippines — San Beda practically ran a clinic for Perpetual Help, hammering out a 102-56 rout to stay unscathed in the 95th NCAA basketball tournament at the Flying V Centre in San Juan yesterday.

The Red Lions blew past the hapless Altas and regained the solo lead with a 6-0 win-loss card as erstwhile joint leader St. Benilde dropped a 71-74 loss to Lyceum of the Philippines U.

Earlier, Mapua slammed Jose Rizal, 83-63, to roll to its third straight win after dropping its first five assignments.

The Bombers sustained their fifth setback against three wins.

So dominant was San Beda versus Perpetual, with the Red Lions storming to a 30-17 lead that they stretched to 47-27 at halftime. Then the reigning three-peat titlists set out for the second half with the same fire and padded their lead even more, 78-39, at the end of the third period.

UPHSD’s agony didn’t end there as San Beda went on another scoring binge while toughening up more on defense to mount its biggest lead of the game at 52, 102-50, on a Damie Cuntapay bucket and three straight booming triples by AC Soberano.

It was like a gun fight with San Beda doing almost all the gunning that resulted to the Lions registering new season highs in points (102), winning margin (46), field goals made (38), field goal attempts (72), three-points made (16) and three points attempted (78).

San Beda had 12 players scoring at least a basket with five finishing in double digits led Donald Tankoua and Soberano with 15 each.
