CT IRONMAN back to Subic next year

MANILA, Philippines — The Century Tuna IRONMAN Philippines returns to Subic Bay, Zambales on June 7, next year, with worldwide online registration opening yesterday.

Feted by AsiaTRI.COM as the Most Challenging Triathlon Race in Asia in 2018, the event covering distances of 3.8 kilometers for swim, 180 kms for bike and 42 kms for run should be a fitting follow-up to the inaugural race last year that proved extra challenging to all those who participated.

“Last year, we had the hardest long course triathlon race in Asia, reflected on finish times 40 minutes to couple of hours slower than a relatively fast IRONMAN course,” said Princess Galura, general manager of Sunrise Events, which is now part of the IRONMAN group, in yesterday’s event launch.

“Though the course is quite difficult due to the weather, we are thrilled to see the participants taking these challenges to race better,” she added. “The 2020 race is very exciting as it will be a showcase of two years worth of hard work and training.”

Organizers opened registration as early as yesterday to give participants a year to train and prepare for the most anticipated race of 2020.

A total of 1,200 slots were opened on a first-come, first-served basis with participants who completed IRONMAN 70.3 from January 2018 and March 2020 given priority to join as part of safety precautions put in place by organizers.

Up for grab in the race are 40 age group seats to the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii – the epicenter of the IRONMAN universe.

The event is sponsored by Century Tuna and presented by Big Boss and produced by Sunrise Events.

The event features 1.9 km ocean swim in the calm, pristine waters of Subic Bay, 180km bike into the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and 42.2km run in a two-loop course that offers the picturesque coastal views of Subic, Zambales.
