Lifesavers eye strong rebound vs Lady Skippers

John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Generika-Ayala hopes to check its skid as it collides with winless Marinerang Pilipina today at the resumption of the second round action in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at the Muntinlupa Sports Center.

After an impressive 5-2 showing in the early going of the tournament that put them at third behind the powerhouse F2 Logistics and the Petron sides, the Lifesavers dropped back-to-back games in the second round, including a 16-25, 26-28, 15-25 loss to the Foton Tornadoes over the weekend.

It was the Tornadoes’ six straight win as they improved to 7-3 to move to solo third behind unbeaten Cargo Movers (8-0) and the Blaze Spikers (8-1).

But the Lifesavers, behind Patty Orendain, Fiola Ceballos and team captain Angeli Araneta, expect to bounce back strong in their 7 p.m. match as they take on the Lady Skippers who remain winless in seven games.

“We still have a long way to go,” said Generika-Ayala coach Sherwin Meneses, whose wards drubbed the Lady Skippers, 25-18, 25-15, 25-23, in the first round. “I’m just reminding them to not dwell on those losses. What’s important is that we learned our lessons and we bounce back next game.”

But despite their string of setbacks, the Lady Skippers have no way to go but up with Ivy Remulla, Judith Abil and Chiara Permentilla raring to deliver the first win for the expansion squad.
