Mighty keeps rampage versus British Columbia

John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Mighty Sports Apparel-Phl drubbed University of British Columbia, 116-87, to stay perfect in four games in the 41st William Jones Cup yesterday at the Changhua County Gymnasium in New Taipei City, Taiwan.

Four players scored in double figures for Mighty Sports led by Fil-Am sensation Jeremiah Gray who buried the Canadians with six triples to finish with 25 points, six rebounds and four assists in just 25 minutes of play.

Renaldo Balkman added 22 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting that came with nine rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks while Eugene Phelps dished out a 20-marker, 11-rebound double-double outing.

Hamady N’Diaye tallied 15 markers, Mikey Williams added nine while Joseph Yeo and Gab Banal chipped in seven each in a scattered Mighty Sports attack.

After staring at a  26-27 deficit in the first frame, the Philippine unleashed a 39-9 second quarter salvo to take full command at 65-36.

That stinging 30-point second-frame gap proved to be the story of the match as the Mighty Sports was never threatened the rest of the way and went on to score a 29-point victory – its fourth lopsided win in a row in the eight-team invitational tourney.
