Angels rip Perlas, cruise to second win

Dante Navarro - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Import Janisa Johnson cranked up her attack and unleashed a 21-hit game, powering PetroGazz to a lopsided 25-19, 25-21, 25-12 victory over Banko-Perlas and into the early solo lead in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Flying V Center in San Juan yesterday.

Coming off a 25-22, 26-24, 25-22 victory over the Creamline Cool Smashers in last Sunday’s inaugurals of the third season of the country’s premier league, the Angels dropped the first four points but recovered quickly and dominated the Perlas Spikers midway in the opening frame on their way to scoring another victory in straight-set fashion.

Unlike in their escape win over the Cool Smashers, however, the Angels hardly faced resistance from their veteran rivals, who failed to sustain their fine start and practically played erratic the rest of the way, enabling the former to post big leads in all three sets.

“I just played hard every game,” said Johnson, who blasted in 19 kills, one block and an ace following a 16-point performance against the Cool Smashers. “But we have to keep on working in every game and make the necessary adjustments.”

Earlier, Alyssa Valdez bounced back strong and Creamline rebounded from a straight-set defeat to PetroGazz with a 25-21, 25-16, 25-18 over PacificTown Army.
