MANILA, Philippines — Rain or Shine decided to let go of Raymond Almazan, sending the former Letran Knight to Meralco in exchange for two future draft picks.

“It’s for the best interest of the team,” RoS team governor Mamerto Mondragon told The STAR as he confirmed the trade agreement with Meralco yesterday.

Under the proposal, which is awaiting review and approval from PBA commissioner Willie Marcial, the E-Painters will get the Bolts’ draft rights for 2019 and 2021.

“Both first round,” said Mondragon.

Almazan and Rain or Shine have been on a rough patch lately. There was even a period last year when the slotman from Bataan went missing in action in the midst of a reported rift with coach Caloy Garcia.

The 6-foot-7 Almazan returned to action for RoS in the Philippine Cup but missed a lot of games, including the seven-game semifinal duel with Magnolia, due to a calf injury.

Marcial and his trade committee is expected to deliberate on the trade at the resumption of office following yesterday’s mid-term elections.
