MANILA, Philippines — Penong’s Barbecue Seafoods and Grill will stage the first Penong’s 5150 Triathlon on July 7, bringing the Olympic distance 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run race to Davao following the second Alveo Ironman 70.3 last March.

Officials of Davao’s favorite barbecue house are thrilled over their first foray in triathlon with the upcoming event expected to draw a huge international field also aimed at promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among Filipinos and foreigners alike.

“This is an opportunity to show everyone that the company is focused on also promoting a healthy lifestyle,” said Teresa Regis, who co-owns Penong’s Barbecue & Grill with Vanessa Mae Uy Santos, in yesterday’s event launch at the Blue Room of the Ayala Triangle in Makati City.

For her part, Uy sees Penong’s partnership with the organizing Sunrise Events Inc. as an opportunity “to show my support to my fellow athletes as well as those who are athletes at heart.”

“Being part of Penong’s ever-growing family, I personally advocate a healthy and active lifestyle,” said Uy.

The race, set the Waterfront Hotel in Davao, comes on the heels of SEI successful staging of the second Alveo Ironman with the upcoming event to be held side by side with the Go for Gold Sunrise Sprint race.

The Sunrise Sprint events covering 750m of swimming, 20km of biking and 5km, is designed for beginners as well as those who have graduated from the IronKids, the kid’s version of Ironman 70.3.

The race kicks off with the swim leg at the Waterfront’s beachfront where participants will tackle an L-shaped course in calm, clear waters of Pakiputan strait. The two-loop ride bike phase will be held at the Daang Maharlika Highway and back with the closing one-loop run event is also set at Daang Maharlika.
