Liyab rules League of Legends Philippine leg

MANILA, Philippines – Team Liyab, the professional esports team of Globe in partnership with Mineski, bagged the championship title at the Philippine National Minor event of the League of Legends (LoL) SEA Tour.

The team will represent the country against the best teams from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia for the right to participate in the Mid-Season Invitational and a $50,000 prize pool.

The LoL squad opened the National Minor-Semifinals with a showdown against TNC Pro Team. A well-prepared Liyab started the series swinging, resulting in a sweeping 2-0 victory for the squad to set up a finals bout against Steelwolves Gaia.

The Bacolod-based squad Steelwolves, known for their unconventional strategies, managed to upset Arkangel in the Semifinals. However, Liyab banked on their championship experience to outmaneuver Steelwolves at all facets of the game, and booked their slot at the LST Major with a 2-0 victory in the finals.

The team is set to continue their bid for local and regional esports domination with another recent win at a major Hearthstone tournament. Last weekend, Liyab’s Cara Cute emerged as the Philippine Representative from the Hearthstone Philippine National Qualifiers for the World Cyber Games in 2019 over 30 individuals. With this, she becomes the country’s representative for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) Regional Qualifiers for WCG 2019 which will be held on April 27-28 through another round of online qualifiers.

Globe continues to be at the forefront of developing the esports ecosystem in the country and believes that with the right support and training, Filipino esports athletes can compete with any esports team in the world.

Globe’s esports commitment began through its pervasive LTE network that helped bring mobile broadband gaming to the next level. Then, the company entered into strategic partnerships with Riot, developer of League of Legends, Garena, publisher of Arena of Valor and Philippine publisher of League of Legends, and Mineski which led to the formation of Team Liyab.
