No rally for Dottie Ardina
MANILA, Philippines — Dottie Ardina sputtered trying to recover from a third-round stumble, ending up with a 76 instead and finishing at joint 47th in the Lotte Championship won by Canadian Brooke Henderson for the second straight year in Oahu, Hawaii Saturday.
Ardina, who sparked some hopes for a strong finish after a second round 68 but tumbled with a 74 Friday, didn’t do any better in the final round, bogeying two of the first three holes and hobbling with three more mishaps in the last 10 against a lone birdie for a pair of 38s.
With a 288 total, the Filipina shotmaker fell to joint 47th after moving as high as 12th in the second round. She hopes to do better in this week’s Hugel-Air Premia La Open in Los Angeles.
Henderson bucked the wind and broke away from a tight battle with a two-under-70 at the Ko Olina Golf Club for a 272, beating Korean Eun Hee Ji by four.
It was Henderson’s eighth LPGA Tour win, tying compatriot’s Sandra Post’s mark.
Henderson’s rivals fell one after the other at the finish, most notably Nelly Korda of the US, who holed out with a quadruple bogey on the par-4 18th and ended up with a 77. She dropped to eighth at 279.
Thai Ariya Jutanugard also struggled with a 73 and tied for third with Aussie Minjee Lee, who groped for a 74, at 277.
