MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines leaned on its solid showing in the 2019 FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters in Doha, Qatar recently to improve its FIBA 3x3 federation world rankings from 32nd to 31st.

The improvement was strengthened by the fact that the country fielded two teams, Pasig and Balanga, and placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the level 10 tournament, which is the first of  12-stage legs in the Tour.

As a team, Pasig leapfrogged from No. 51 to No. 27 after beating powerhouse teams like Katara, 21-14, and World No. 1 Liman, 19-6, in pool play.

It could have rose even higher in the rankings if not for a stinging 15-21 defeat to Riga Ghetto, the World No. 3 which eventually topped the meet.

Pasig will try to gain more world ranking points and improve its rankings as it plunges back into action in the Kunshan Challenger slated May 18-19, which serves as a qualifier to the Chengdu Masters, the second leg of the Tour.

"We are elated with this development but the work is far from over," said Ronald Mascarinas, the Chooks to Go Pilipinas 3x3 league owner.

"We at Chooks-to-Go will continue to do our part in helping promote 3x3 basketball, develop our players, and join the tournaments sanctioned by FIBA," he added.
