Labog, Anastacio shine in Iba chess

MANILA, Philippines — Perpetual Help standouts Eric Labog Jr. and John Mark Anastacio came through with strong performances in the Governor Amor Deloso National Age Group Chess Championships in Iba, Zambales.

Labog topped the boys’ under-18 division by scoring eight points out of the possible 11 ahead of Israelito Rilloraza and Christian Mark Daluz, who ended up second and third places with 7.5 and 6.5 points, respectively.

Anastacio, for his part, edged ASEAN Age Group veteran Dale Bernardo via tiebreak to finish third with eight points, half a point behind Melito Ocsan Jr. and Jhoemar Mendiogarin, the champion and first runner-up.

Labog and Anastacio thus made it to the Phl team seeing action in the ASEAN Age Group tilt set June 9-19 in Myanmar.
