Allianz OCR offers berths in SEAG pool

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Obstacle course racers get their chance to prove their worth and even aspire for slots in the national pool in the “Allianz OCR Sunday”, a big 2-in-1 event slated Mar. 31 in Filinvest City, Alabang.

The one-day affair features two prestigious OCR races – Conquer Challenge, which tests participants in a 5K race of 20 obstacles and a 1.5K race of eight obstacles, and Ninja OCR, which challenges them on non-running obstacle course races in the 100m and 400m distances.

“The Top 5 male and female in the 5K elite division will have a chance to get invited to the national training pool,” said Conquer Challenge’s James Bungubung as he joined Allianz PNB Life chief marketing officer Gae Martinez, Allianz PNB Life brand communications and digital director Rei Abrazaldo, Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation’s Jay Lim, and Ninja OCR’s Noel Agra in yesterday’s media launch.

Among those taking part and vying for top honors in the event that serves as part of the selection process for the Phl team to the Southeast Asian Games are five Aetas from Allianz’s adopted community in Porac, Pampanga: Jacob King, Miracle Lansang, Danilo Yugyug, Gelyann Soria, and Ivy Pelayo, who showed promise among 25 Aetas who saw action in the Conquer Challenge last year.

“We’re giving them the opportunity to be part of the national training pool,” said Martinez. “The five were identified by Conquer Challenge themselves, after having seen their potential, so I think they have a good chance.”

Competitors must hurdle tough obstacles that include the event’s trademark taho carrying and tirador obstacles, as well as three, six and eight foot walls.

“As a company that uses sports to connect with communities and people, Allianz Philippines has chosen to be associated with OCR. We saw how the spirit of the sport is strongly aligned and consistent with our brand belief,” said Martinez.
