Skippers tame Bulldogs

Kristina Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Marinerong Pilipino quelled a SMDC-National University uprising, 86-71, to bounce back in the PBA D-League yesterday.

Anton Asistio, Santi Santillan and Raffy Reyes combined for 17 points in the fourth to frustrate the Bulldogs and improve to a 1-1 card in the Foundation Group.

SMDC-NU tried to claw from a 21-point hole, closing in at 57-63 at the end of the third but got stopped on its tracks and instead fell to its second straight loss.

“Anton and Santi are exprienced players and they were able to bring that to Marinero. Hopefully, they will be able to sustain that,” said Skippers coach Yong Garcia.

University of Santo Tomas spoiled Joshua Munzon’s 46-point output for AMA Online Education as it picked up its second straight win, 113-108, in the Apirants’ Group.

Soulemane Chabi-yo turned in double-double numbers of 25 points and 18 rebounds, five blocked shots, an assist and a steal while Sherwin Concepcion (20-13), Renzo Subido (19), Rhenz Abando (19) and Mark Nonoy (14) also did their part to lift the Tigers to a share of the early lead with Cignal-Ateneo in their bracket.
