National spikers skip tourneys, to train in Japan, Korea

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The national volleyball team will skip three international tournaments in favor of training abroad as part of its preparation for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

LVPI president Peter Cayco yesterday said they have decided not to join the AVC Asian Women’s Club Championship, AVC Senior Women’s Championship and AVC Under-23 Women’s Championship to focus all the team’s resources in sending the national women’s team to training camps  in Japan and Korea.

“We decided to concentrate on the Southeast Asian Games preparation,” said Cayco. “We already communicated this to the AVC and they are assisting us in scheduling our foreign training trips.”
