FEU weathers scrappy NU squad for first win
SAN JUAN, Manila — The FEU Lady Tamaraws emerged victorious against a young NU Lady Bulldogs squad in four sets, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-12, at the FilOil Flying V Centre, Saturday.
Recovering from an opening set loss against the rookie-laden NU, the Morayta squad was able to weather scares of comebacks from the Lady Bulldogs for the rest of the game.
The Lady Tamaraws relied on the offense of rookie Lyka Ebon, who tallied a team-high 13 points. Veterans Heather Guino-o and Jerrili Malabanan chipped in with 11 and 10, respectively.
Meanwhile, Ivy Lacsina led the war for NU with 14 markers.
FEU looked to dominate at the start of every set, but the Lady Bulldogs almost always make a run to close in on the Lady Tamaraws.
Unwilling to let NU repeat their first set win, the Lady Tamaraws held their own to grind out wins in the second and third set.
After losing NU's rookie setter Joyme Cagande to injury late in the third set, the Lady Bulldogs just couldn't keep up.
The Lady Tamaraws dominated the offense and came away with a 25-12 win to seal the match.
FEU hopes to keep on winning when they go against the UP Lady Maroons this Wednesday, February 20.
