Always aiming high

MANILA, Philippines — Dianne Viernes of Diliman Preparatory School bagged one gold and one silver medal in the recently concluded National Open  held Jan.  25- 27 at Dumaguete City.

Viernes also won seven gold medals and one silver in the Quezon City Archery Meet held  Nov. 26–30 last year at the Belarmino Sports Complex.

“Viernes is a well-rounded and multi skilled student-athlete who has also been a player of the DPS girls volleybal team. She can play both in team sports and individual sports. She was part of the Archery Varsity in August 2017,” said coach Syd Fraginal of Orion Archery. ”She’s starting to make a name in this sport.”

Viernes is also a consistent honor student, and has always been a member of the honors section. She said good time management has helped her balance her student-athlete life.

“You have to be committed to the sport, including time management...every weekend I devote my time, my whole Saturday and Sunday to archery...my time revolves around study and archery,” she says.

Diliman Preparatory School is one of the exponents of the Whole Brain Learning System, which recognizes the importance of sports in developing well-rounded students. With the WBL system, an innovative educational learning philosophy that aims for holistic development, DPS has produced student-athletes who excel both in their academics and their extra-curricular activities.
