Generika-Ayala taps Arrendondo Reyes as import
Generika-Ayala formally joined the arms race as it tapped Lisbet Arredondo Reyes to be its import in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix next month.
Arredondo is no ordinary import.
She’s coming in with an impressive resume after seeing action for the Cuban national team from 2006 to 2010 before plying her trade in professional leagues in Turkey, Indonesia, Spain and Finland.
She was supposed to suit up for Smart in the Grand Prix last year, but negotiations collapsed days before the opening day.
The Giga Hitters, instead, hired her fellow Cuban squad member in Gyselle Silva, who went on to take the country by storm when she erupted for 56 points, the highest-ever scoring output in the league.
In a social media post, the Lifesavers confirmed the hiring.
There is no way but up! ???? Dahil buo ang loob ng Generika Ayala Lifesavers, naniniwala kaming KAYANG KAYA namin. Watch out for Lisbet Arredondo Reyes and the whole #GenerikaAyalaLifesavers team this 2019 PSL Grand Prix! https://t.co/46CF2ECHdT

With Arredondo Reyes’ hiring, the balance of power slowly tilted away from reigning champion Petron.
The Blaze Spikers hired two of the best imports the country had ever seen – Stephanie Niemer and Katherine Bell – but their bitter rival in F2 Logistics responded by tapping celebrated American-Italian spiker in Rebecca Perry.
Now that the Lifesavers are bringing in their own big gun, the import-laced conference suddenly transformed into a wide-open race.
The club is set to announce Arredondo Reyes’ partner in the next few days, but local stars like Patty Orendain, Fiola Ceballos and Marivic Meneses are all expected to return for another title run.
