Pacquiao fine-tunes in the morning, plays a tune in the night

LOS ANGELES – Already in peak form more than a week before his fight against Adrien Broner, Manny Pacquiao, continued to put in solid work Thursday (Friday Manila time) by jogging in the morning and sparring in the afternoon.

Pacquiao, accompanied by some members of his training team, ran along Beverly Boulevard here early morning then logged six rounds of sparring with a couple of fighters led by Australian prospect George Kambosos Jr.

Even at 40 years old, the Filipino icon remains sharp in training, pounding the mitts with head trainer Buboy Fernandez and honing his footwork like he’s still in his prime.

“At 40 years old…” he was heard saying as he bounced on his toes atop the ring at Freddie Roach’s famous Wild Card Gym, proud of the fact that he can still work hard for a major fight.

At one point, he squeezed the left part of his trunks, with drops of sweat hitting the canvas.

Pacquiao’s team insists the defending WBA welterweight champion is good to go against Broner on January 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas (January 20 Manila time).

Pacquiao himself is raring to fight Broner.

The fighting senator spent the rest of the day at his posh Los Angeles home entertaining guests — which included Ghanaian-American actor and comedian Michael Blackson — by playing some songs with his guitar.

For a 40-year-old fighter who’s about to take on a 29-year-old opponent whose nickname is “The Problem,” Pacquiao is problem-free.

And that’s a problem for anyone on the opposite corner of a Pacquiao bout.
