Senate blasts PLDT Digital, forces rubber in MBL

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Defending champion Senate  Advocates handcuffed PLDT Digital’s main weapon of destruction to score a 74-65 victory and force a deciding Game 3 in the Makabansa Basketball League title series Sunday at the Meralco Fitness Center.

The Advocates led by as many as 19 while limiting to two points  top gunners Charles Corpuz and Ron Lezter Guerrero, who accounted for PLDT Digital’s 26 and 28 points in Game 1.

Corpuz  had only one point to show in PLDT Digital’s only loss for the season.

Though the deficit was trimmed to single digits in the closing minutes, the Advocates built up enough cushion to frustrate any chances for a comeback.

Game 3 is set today at 7 p.m. also at the same venue.

The MBL is a basketball tournament involving teams from different government offices and private groups formed to promote health and wellness, and foster camaraderie among the participants. Through sportsmanship and healthy competition, the MBL aims to solidify partnerships in and among the public and private sectors to better serve the public.

At the start of the tournament, each team chose a beneficiary, with the winning teams’ beneficiaries receiving cash prizes as a donation.

MBL Season 2 is powered by KOTC Sports Organizing Services, Inc. and is sponsored by the MVP Sports Foundation, Inc., Metro Pacific Investments Corp., Pazifik Power, Inc., Corporate Holdings Management, Inc., ANC Group of Companies, and Tanduay Distillers, Inc.
