Manny Pacquiao reminded: Adrien Broner no bum
MANILA, Philippines — One other task for strength coach Justin Fortune is to remind Manny Pacquiao that facing Adrien Broner is not a walk in the park.
Fortune makes sure Pacquiao is reminded of that – everyday.
“Broner is not a bum,” Fortune told The STAR at the Elorde Gym in Pasay City, where Pacquiao has been working out the past weeks.
“He’s coming to fight. He’s a four-time champ,” Fortune said of the 29-year-old challenger from Cincinatti, Ohio.
Fortune said he’d seen Broner fight, and has a pretty good idea of what to expect at the MGM on Jan. 19.
“He’s a thinking fighter. He’s not going to do anything stupid there. He’s always thinking. So, he’s a dangerous guy,” said Fortune.
“Everyone’s dangerous when they fight Manny because they always fight 10 times better than what they normally do,” he added.
Pacquiao is in the thick of training. He was supposed to spar yesterday but was caught up with his legislative duties.
As of 4 p.m. he was still at the Senate when normally he would be at the gym at around 2 p.m. His aides said sparring would go on later in the day.
“I’m okay,” Pacquiao assured.
