MANILA, Philippines — Manny Pacquiao’s training was cut short yesterday afternoon when he suffered cramps on his left leg as his five-round sparring session was about to end.

Pacquiao managed to continue after a brief lull, and would have gone on. But his conditioning coach, Justin Fortune, felt there was no need.

“It’s not worth it,” said Fortune at the Elorde Gym in Pasay City.

“I’m okay,” said Pacquiao, who granted interviews with a handful of television crews after the abbreviated training session.

Fortune blamed the incident on lack of water, and Pacquiao went further by saying he ran out of vitamins (potassium, calcium and magnesium).

“We just ran out of vitamins for potassium and magnesium. What we have from my last fight were expired. I could not take them,” said Pacquiao, who stakes his WBA welterweight crown against American Adrien Broner on Jan. 19 in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao has dealt with cramps over recent years while he trains or while he’s in an actual fight. It was reported that he spends roughly $1,800 for a tube of anti-inflammatory cream he applies on his legs when he cramps.

The eight-division world champion who is just eight days shy of his 40th birthday skipped road work yesterday morning and played basketball instead.
