Foton's Layug, Adorador out for rest of PSL season due to injuries

MANILA, Philippines – Foton suffered a major blow when two of its attackers crashed with an injury midway into the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference.

Team manager Diane Santiago confirmed that opposite Arianne Layug and open hitter Shaya Adorador would no longer play in the remainder of the conference after sustaining serious injuries.

Santiago said Layug torn her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in a game against Smart two weeks ago while Adorador remains in hospital after being diagnosed with sinusitis infection.

Their absence serves as a massive setback for the Tornadoes, who are walking wounded after Jaja Santiago and Dindin Manabat packed their bags for Japan to become the first Filipino players in the prestigious V.Premier League.

Still, Foton found a away to win as it finished the first round with five wins and two losses to emerge at the third spot of the eight-team field.

“Their loss is a major setback, especially now that Jaja and Dindin are not here,” said Santiago, adding that they would be forced to play with only 12 players in the roster.

“But we will still make do with what we have. We will still play our hearts out every game even if we have only 12 players in the roster.”
With Layug and Adorador out, the Tornadoes will have to bank more on leading scorers Carmina Aganon and Maika Ortiz as well as the support crew of Carla Sandoval, CJ Rosario and Bea de Leon.

Of course, playmakers Ivy Perez and Gyzelle Sy will also have to step up and be creating in finding the open attacker.

“We treat it as a challenge,” said Santiago, pinning her trust on head coach Aaron Velez. “It means we all have to work doubly hard to achieve our goal.” Foton suffered a major blow when two of its attackers crashed with an injury midway into the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference.
