Unbeaten Foton eyes fifth straight vs F2 Logistics
MANILA, Philippines — Streaking Foton guns for the solo lead versus skidding F2 Logistics while giant-killer Generika-Ayala seeks to sustain the momentum against winless Sta. Lucia to highlight today’s Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference tiffs at the Filoil Flying V Center.
Unbeaten in four games, the Tornadoes look to leave idle co-leader Petron behind at the top in their 7 p.m. duel with Cargo Movers (3-2) that’s out to arrest a two-game slide after a 3-0 start.
The Lifesavers (1-3), for their part, hope to score a follow-up to their 19-25, 25-22, 25-16, 28-26 shocker over F2 two days ago as they take on the Lady Realtors (0-4) at 4:15 p.m.
The Smart Giga Hitters, who opened the tourney on a winning note but dropped their last two outings, aim to get back on track against 0-3 Cocolife.
“We’re happy sa pinapakita namin but it’s very important for us to continue what we’re doing,” said Foton’s first-year coach Aaron Velez, whose squad led by Maika Ortiz, Mina Aganon, Shaya Adorador, and Gyzelle Sy has shown it can compete in the prestigious tournament without stars Jaja Santiago and Dindin Santiago-Manabat.
But Velez braces for a dogfight with Cha Cruz Behag, Aby Marano, Kim Fajardo, and Dawn Macandili and the rest of F2.
“I’m sure F2 Logistics will come back stronger, especially since they are coming from back-to-back losses. But we will do our assignment and we will try our best not to be their victim,” said Velez.
Generika coach Sherwin Meneses said Tuesday’s upset on F2 was fruit of the Lifesavers’ hardwork.
“Malaking morale boost sa mga susunod na games, sana dire-diretso na,” said Meneses, who maintained their “one-game-at-a-time” approach.
Meanwhile, Cignal joined the list of hot teams in the PSL AFC as it scored its second consecutive victory via a 25-17, 25-11, 25-18 sweep of the Lady Realtors Tuesday night with Mylene Paat (19) and captain Rachel Anne Daquis (11) leading the offensive.
